Propagation of Group a Coxsackie Viruses in Tissue Cultures
نویسندگان
چکیده
In contrast with the 6 Group B Coxsackie viruses which readily induce a cytopathic effect (CPE) in tissue cultures, many of the Group A viruses have either failed to alter visibly cells propagated in cultural systems, or have required "adaptation" for such an effect. In the course of studies made during the last two years we have obtained CPE on primate cells cultured in vitro for all except 7 serotypes among the 24 Group A viruses.

Adaptation of Group B Coxsackie Virus to Adult Mouse Pancreas
An alteration of tissue tropism of a Coxsackie virus has been observed following different methods of propagation of the virus in animals. Tropism for the adult mouse pancreas, as described by Pappenheimer, appeared to be irrevocably lost following prolonged brain-to-brain transfer. It was present in the same strain on reisolation from human feces, was intensified following pancreas transfers, ...
متن کاملParticipation of Bicarbonate in Rna and Protein Syntheses as Indicated by Virus Propagation in Human Cells
The propagation of a strain of Coxsackie virus, group B type 1, in human cell cultures depleted of bicarbonate has been studied. Under the described experimental conditions, bicarbonate depletion suppresses the propagation of this virus. This suppressive effect may be reversed by the addition of the following compounds to the bicarbonate-depleted cultures: (a) bicarbonate; (b) adenosine, guanos...
متن کاملEvaluating of Iran Razi Khedmati Bovine Kidney (IRKHBK) Cell Line for Isolation and Propagation of Viruses
Abstract Background and Aims: To identify and isolation of viruses a susceptible cell is need which can be primary or line. The use of primary cells is laborious, time consuming and expensive, while the use of cell lines is much easier and faster. IRKHBK cell line was originated from primary cells of bovine kidney by continuous passage. The aim of this study was to introduce the IRKHBK cell ...

Crowell, Richard L. (Hahnemann Medical College, Philadelphia, Pa.). Specific viral interference in HeLa cell cultures chronically infected with Coxsackie B5 virus. J. Bacteriol. 86:517-526. 1963.-The presence of large amounts of Coxsackie B5 virus in culture fluids of a HeLa subline, serially propagated over a 3-year period, provided evidence for attainment of a viral carrier state. Human serum...
متن کاملCytopathic index: a new method for the quantitative evaluation of tissue culture infectivity of different virus strains.
In the analysis of various properties of pathogenic bacteria most investigators have paid special attention to the morphology of the colonies, antigenic characteristics, and virulence. Similar methods are now used in virus research except that the morphological studies concern plaques, not colonies. The plaque under agar technique, introduced by Dulbecco (1952) into animal virology, has been us...
